Hip Hood: Eastport, Annapolis

In 1998, Eastport staged a tongue-in-cheek succession from Annapolis over concern that closing the Spa Creek Drawbridge for repairs would significantly damage local business. Dubbing itself “The Maritime Republic of Eastport,” this quirky neighborhood stages a tug-of-war for charity over the Annapolis harbor every November.

The local slogan is, “We like it this way.”

The Boatyard Bar & Grill
A local staple, this accessible and family-friendly establishment offers seafood and small-town flavor as well as space for private events. Located on Eastport’s famous Restaurant Row, the Boatyard was voted Favorite Yachting Bar in the U.S. by What’s Up Magazine in 2014.

Davis’ Pub
The epitome of a small-town brew pub, Davis’ serves up friendly atmosphere and light pub-style fare until 1 a.m. During baseball season, Orioles and Nationals games play at opposite ends of the bar.

Carrol’s Creek Cafe
With big windows and outdoor dining that overlook the Spa Creek Bridge, Carrol’s Creek—named for Declaration of Independence signer Charles Carroll—invites diners to enjoy maritime culture while partaking of classic Chesapeake fare. Multiple rooms, as well as the entire restaurant, can be reserved as event space.

VIN 909
Retrofitted into a Sears Roebuck house, this jewel of an eatery may not be easy to find but will make it worth your while. Featuring a seasonally changing menu with farm-to-table organic ingredients and a deep selection of wines, microbrews and imported beer, VIN 909 provides an intimate, informal atmosphere for small groups.

Annapolis Canoe and Kayak
Experiential tourists looking to get their feet wet can do it the right way. The full-service shop offers canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and necessary equipment for sale and rent. The floating demo dock is available for use year-round.
