Q&A with Bruno Serato, Owner/Chef, Anaheim White House
What culinary trends are you noticing around coastal Orange County?
We’re seeing many new restaurants popping up in the beach communities of Orange County. Among those gaining notoriety are Selanne Steak Tavern in Laguna Beach and Pirozzi Corona Del Mar and Oak Grill in Newport Beach. We’re starting to see more and more guests treating themselves to a fine meal, much like they did before the Great Recession.
What makes the area a great destination food-wise?
Orange County is a melting pot in terms of ethnic cuisine choices, chef-driven restaurants and varying price points. All told, these qualities make the region an exceptional dining destination.
What are the specialties at your restaurant that you recommend for visiting groups?
Anaheim White House is an Italian steakhouse situated in a lovely 1909 landmark home, offering our specialty—a number of the finest cuts of meat available. Included are roasted bison with hickory-smoked bacon in a balsamic reduction, New Zealand rack of venison and the highest quality steaks, including Waygu and Australian Kobe choices. For dessert, the Jackie O is our signature. It’s a massive tower adorned by spun sugar with bite-size petit fours, tiramisu and fruit tarts. We have private rooms available for special events, and buyouts are welcome.
What is one of your favorite places to grab a bite or a drink?
My friend Antonio Cagnolo’s Antonello Ristorante at South Coast Plaza is a favorite, and Selanne Steak Tavern in Laguna Beach, which is owned by my pal and former Anaheim Ducks star Teemu Selanne, is terrific.
