Pick Three: Downtown Wilmington

Lyn Lewis, Director of Communications, Greater Wilmington CVB, Delaware

What are three of the most unique foodie experiences for visiting groups in Greater Wilmington?

Domaine Hudson Wine Bar & Eatery  in Downtown Wilmington is a standout. When it comes to fine dining, Domaine Hudson is considered one of Wilmington’s best choices. Zagat-rated food prepared by Executive Chef Dwain Kalup and a wine selection that OpenTable describes as one of the 50 best in the country is a winning combination. Both small and large plate selections are offered and each course is expertly paired with the perfect wine.

Dinner specialties include pressed leg of lamb, poppy seed ricotta tortellini and grilled hanger steak. The newly renovated dining room can accommodate parties from seven to 70 people and is equipped with a state-of-the-art sound system. A private dining room is also available and can seat 12 people.

Located in the LOMA district in Downtown Wilmington, La Fia Bakery/Market/Bistro  opened its doors in July 2014 and serves lunch and dinner on Monday through Friday, and dinner on Saturday. The menu has a European flair and everything—even the pasta—is made from scratch under the direction of Bryan Sikora, founder and head chef as well as a semi-finalist for the prestigious James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic. Dinner entrees include shrimp and chorizo risotto, mustard crusted salmon and ricotta gnocchi.

Buckley’s Tavern, located less than eight miles from Downtown Wilmington in upscale Centreville, Delaware, has been a mainstay on the area’s dining scene for over 100 years. Don’t be misled by the restaurant’s name, as you’re apt to find a Rolls Royce in the parking lot. Chef Tom Hannum’s menu ranges from American comfort foods like macaroni and cheese and chicken pot pie to broiled crab cakes served with champagne mustard sauce and steak Dijonnaise.

Buckley’s has two private dining rooms that can accommodate groups of 16 and 26. Buckley’s has real character—it’s the only restaurant I know of that has a Sunday Pajama Brunch. All patrons who arrive at the restaurant dressed in pajamas get a 50 percent discount on their meal.
