Pride and authenticity are just two words that come to mind when thinking of North and South Carolina. The states are equal parts culture, history and sweeping outdoor escapes. They conjure a dichotomy of images, from preserved historic towns to booming cosmopolitan centers, from foodie enclaves to old-school barbecue havens, from windswept beaches to the Great Smoky Mountains.
For this year’s inaugural edition of Meetings Today Carolinas, Jeff Heilman takes us behind the scenes to the foodie and beer scenes of both the Palmetto and Tar Heel states, and also delves into the deep-rooted history and culture of the region.
“A Carolina State of Mind” showcases the growing number of venues and CVB emphasis being placed on meetings in both North and South Carolina. Demand for group business is up across the board.
In “Tantalizing Tastes,” Heilman hits the pubs and breweries for local craft beers and homemade brews. The Carolinas are also known for their barbecue talents, which remain an integral part of the growing food culture. Heilman spotlights his Top 10 culinary experiences for groups and offers a tandem interview with Jamie Minster, co-founder, and Meagan Sullivan, co-owner, of Charleston Epicurean.
Speaking of culture, “Cultural Vortex” leads us through the entertainment districts and myriad arts venues found throughout the Carolinas. There is also a sidebar “Festival Time” that highlights some of the region’s top annual music, film and performing arts events that are ready-made for group entertainment.
History buffs will find a treasure trove of venues and experiences in Heilman’s roundup, “Deep Roots.” Tour everything from Asheville’s Biltmore to Charleston’s Fort Sumter.
