Latest & Greatest: Puerto Rico (Dec. 2015)

  • The famed Caribe Hilton (www.hilton.com) opened in 1949 and launched Hilton International. The 917-room hotel renovated its signature bar and lounge, Caribar, as well as the Oasis Bar, the Atlantic Bar and breakout meeting space. The property has 65,000 square feet of meeting space, including the 7,436-square-foot San Geronimo Ballroom.
  • The Condado Vanderbilt (www.condadovanderbilt.com), once the summer home of Cornelius Vanderbilt and now a luxurious 319-room hotel, opened last December. The hotel features Puerto Rico’s first Hammam spa, chef Juan Jose Cuevas’ restaurant, 1919, and 30,000 square feet of meeting space, including the Patio del Fauno Ballroom, which can accommodate up to 600.
  • The Embassy Suites Dorado del Mar Beach Resort (www.embassysuites.com), located about 25 miles west from San Juan and Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, recently completed the second phase of a multimillion-dollar renovation, including a full upgrade of all suites and introduction of the new Grand Hall, which has about 9,000 square feet of space for meetings, conventions and events. The Grand Hall, the largest space of its kind in the area, can accommodate up to 800 guests for banquets. With the addition of the Grand Hall, the resort now offers more than 22,000 square feet of meeting space.
  • Hotel El Convento (www.elconvento.com), the 58-room historic property that was formerly a Carmelite Convent, is located in the heart of Old San Juan and recently completed an update of the 1,500-square-foot Salon Paoli, which can accommodate up to 80 people. Overall, the hotel offers more than 6,000 square feet of meeting space.
  • The 126-room Hyatt House San Juan (www.sanjuan.house.hyatt.com) opened in October 2014 and is Puerto Rico’s first extended-stay hotel. The property is part of the Puerto Rico Convention Center District. The adjacent 149-room Hyatt Place San Juan is expected to open in early 2016.
  • The 398-room InterContinental San Juan (www.icsanjuanresort.com) recently completed a $23 million remodel of its public areas, including the lobby, bar, its 18,800 square feet of meeting space and the hotel’s facade.
