BIRMINGHAM

  • The 1900s-era downtown Empire Building will be part of a $45 million project adding two Marriott hotels and a gourmet restaurant to the city center. The Empire Hotel will offer 117 guest rooms, a gym, lounge, event space and rooftop bar, while the neighboring building will host a select service Marriott hotel with 120 guest rooms. A launch date has not yet been put in place.
  • The Redmont Hotel Birmingham, Curio, Collection by Hilton, named for Birmingham’s Red Mountain, is returning after a lengthy $20 million transformation. The historic property will open next year with 120 guest rooms as well as four conference rooms for meetings and events.
  • Grand Bohemian Hotel Mountain Brook debuted in October as The Kessler Collection’s first property in the state. The 100-room luxury boutique hotel offers some unique elements, including an art collection at the Grand Bohemian Gallery. The property is also home to the Poseidon Spa and an option hosting events at its rooftop restaurant and terrace.

DECATUR

  • The DoubleTree by Hilton Decatur Riverfront opened in September. The 165-room hotel, located in downtown Decatur, was previously a Garden Plaza hotel. Its $10 million makeover includes a redesign of the exterior and lobby and fully refreshed guest rooms and suites. It also boasts updated and expanded meeting spaces totaling 8,901 square feet and a revamped atrium.

MOBILE

  • The revamped and relaunched Admiral Hotel Mobile, recently joined Curio – A Collection by Hilton. Renovations to the transformed property included updates to the lobby design, restaurants, and public spaces as well as its 6,000 square feet of event space. An additional renovation phase is revamping its 155 guest rooms and suites, and the property’s new on-site dining outlets.

ORANGE BEACH

  • Atlanta-based Hospitality Ventures Management Group will serve as the lead developer and operator of the planned five-story, 132-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott that broke ground in June at the wharf in Orange Beach. The property will neighbor the Orange Beach Event Center and once completed will include a destination restaurant, full-service bar and a patio with water views. The hotel will also include about 3,000 square feet of meeting space, a fitness center and resort-style pool.
