Austin, Texas, will soon be home to the first inland surf resort, NLand Surf Park. The park is scheduled to open in 2016, bringing the ocean to a central Texas lagoon. With one-, four- and six-foot waves every 60 seconds, the waves won’t lose power or shape due to the Wavegarden technology.
The park will feature 11 surfing areas with four different surfing levels, from beginner to professional.
The surf park offers groups packages for teambuilding, retreats and events. Options will be customizable and can range from dry-land training by a surf professional, to professional demos or speakers, to surf contests for the more advanced. Groups can also use the facility for receptions and on-site meals before or after their chosen experience.
NLand Surf Park Founder and CEO Doug Coors—ancestor of brewer Adolph Coors—worked with Travis County Commissioner Margaret Gomez to select the site and make the park net zero regarding water usage.
“We designed the park to tread lightly on the land and all its resources, especially water,” Coors says. “Even in the most challenging drought conditions, we will be capable of operating the lagoon with only rainwater.”
