The National Blues Museum is scheduled to open in early April 2016 in downtown St. Louis. The 23,000-square-foot museum is located in the hub of St. Louis’ convention and tourism district, within walking distance of the Gateway Arch, each of the city’s major league sports stadiums and Citygarden.
“The National Blues Museum will celebrate this great, national treasure of the Blues, attract visitors to St. Louis from all across the country, as well as provide quality educational programs for students and guests of all ages,” said Dion Brown, the museum’s executive director.
The space will include interactive technology, artifact-driven exhibits, a performance area, special event space and classrooms. The 2,500-square-foot private event space can accommodate up to 150 people reception-style or 110 seated. The Lumiere Performance room can also be used by groups and has a 150-person capacity, as well as a stage area for a band or presentation. The museum works with SugarFire Smoke House and Embassy Suites by Hilton for all catering needs.
Supporters of the National Blues Museum include Grammy Award winners Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and Derek Trucks. The museum will explore and preserve the historic significance of the Blues and celebrate the musicians who both created and advance the art form. Beyond the galleries and exhibits, the National Blues Museum will host public programs, educational events and other community-based activities.
