Hotels Offer 'Check-in' Experiences

Experiences are in when it comes to hotel welcome amenities. In lieu of material items, some properties are now offering guests experiences when they check-in. These types of amenities allow guests to connect to the property and destination, and inspire creativity and discovery through involvement. Here are three hotels that welcome guests with experiences that are unique to the property.

At Rosewood San Miguel de Allende, a 67-room boutique hotel located in central Mexico, guests are welcomed with an easel in their room along with paints and tools. The town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and historic artists’ village, so guests can get inspiration from their surroundings to create their own work of art to take home. The property has 12,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, including a 2,400-square-foot ballroom and event lawn that can accommodate up to 600 attendees.

The Lodge at Glendorn, a rustic-luxe resort with accommodations ranging from private cabins to rooms in the main lodge, sits on 1,500 acres in northwestern Pennsylvania. When guests arrive, they are given fish food that can be used to feed the fish at the on-site hatchery. Fly rods fully rigged with flies and gear are also left for guests to use on-property. The lodge features the “Playhouse” meeting facility with a breakout room and can accommodate 55 people.

At the 117-room Miraval Resort & Spa, guests receive a “seed bomb” (a compressed bundle of soil containing seeds) and are encouraged to plant it during their stay. This unique welcome amenity is designed to give guests the opportunity to be a part of the flowering landscape of the Tuscan resort and to help guests shift into a mindful and present state. The resort features six meeting rooms, including the 1,500-square-foot Anasazi Room that opens onto the Raindance Courtyard.
