Latest & Greatest: Charlotte (March 2016)

The 446-room Charlotte Marriott City Center is currently undergoing a major renovation scheduled for completion by summer 2016. The project includes updates to all guest rooms, suites, the lobby, restaurant/bar, meeting space and public areas.

The 200-room Holiday Inn Charlotte Airport completed a renovation in January 2015 that included upgrades to guest rooms, the lobby, restaurant, 5,000 square feet of meeting space, fitness center and the hotel’s facade.

In November 2015, the historic Bojangles’ Coliseum completed Phase 1 of renovations, including improvements to seating, technology (new scoreboard and sound system) and concessions stands, and the addition of the Red Line Club restaurant. Phase 2, which will include upgrades to electrical, mechanical and other maintenance, will begin in summer 2016.

The Charlotte Convention Center has partnered with Four Winds Interactive to design and upgrade a digital signage solution that will enhance the guest experience through powerful wayfinding features. At press time, the installation was slated for completion February 2016. The Charlotte Convention Center is also on track to upgrade all public restrooms by next year.

Embassy Suites will develop a nine-story, 250-room hotel on the former AME Zion office building site located across the street from the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Charlotte Convention Center. The hotel will include ground-floor retail and restaurant space. Completion of the project is projected for late 2016.

The 195-room SpringHill Suites Charlotte Uptown is scheduled to open with three meeting rooms in December.

Construction of a 20-story hotel tower at EpiCentre (www.epicentrenc.com), an entertainment complex, began last year and is slated for completion in late 2017. The hotel tower will house two Marriott brands: a 182-room AC Hotel and a 120-room Residence Inn.

Tryon Place, a mixed-use development on Stonewall Street across from the Charlotte Convention Center and NASCAR Hall of Fame, will feature up to 450 hotel rooms and 30,000 square feet of retail/restaurant space. The project is slated for completion by early 2018.
