MidAmerica Upgrades & Openings (April 2016)

Indiana
Vantage Hotels announced the rebranding of the 189-room hotel adjacent to Indianapolis International Airport. The former Radisson is now the Lexington Hotel Indianapolis Airport, the closest full-service hotel to the airport and just eight miles from downtown Indianapolis. The property features Austin’s restaurant and a lobby lounge with an Indiana and Indianapolis sports theme. There is over 12,000 square feet of meeting space, a 24-hour business center and a complimentary shuttle to and from the airport is offered to guests.

Michigan
Courtyard by Marriott Holland Downtown opened with 140 guest rooms. The hotel features the brand’s Refreshing Business lobby with media pods and several seating areas, as well as its latest room design offering hybrid zones for working, sleeping, relaxing and getting ready. The five-story hotel features Big E’s Sports Grill, an indoor swimming pool and 477 square feet of meeting space.

Minnesota
The 303-room Hyatt Regency Bloomington-Minneapolis debuted in Bloomington Central Station, a mixed-use development site near the Mall of America. The hotel is one of only a few in the city with access to a park and outdoor spaces for entertainment, dining and events. The Blue Line Light Rail is a quick walk away through the park. The on-site Urbana Craft Kitchen & Market features locally sourced ingredients, beer and spirits with a seasonal menu showcasing sustainable, regionally influenced items. The property offers over 15,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including a ballroom, smaller breakout rooms and executive boardrooms. The 7,000-square-foot Central Station Grand Ballroom can accommodate up to 840 people.

Missouri
The Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center unveiled a new event space, Skies, on the 42nd floor adjacent to the Sheraton Club Lounge. The new 2,500-square-foot space is ideal for smaller meetings, cocktail receptions and gatherings for up to 75 guests. The 730-room hotel offers nearly 42,900 square feet of meeting space, 25 meeting rooms and is connected to the 52,000-square-foot Crown Center Exhibit Hall.

Ohio
The 1.7 million-square-foot Greater Columbus Convention Center debuted its renovated 25,000-square-foot Union Station Ballroom. Formerly the Grand Ballroom, the first-floor space has been transformed and features a new color palette, new carpeting and wall treatments and LED customizable lighting. The ballroom may be used in its entirety or divided into three adjacent ballrooms, The name pays homage to the Columbus Union Station train station, the first of which opened in 1850. The convention center also opened the new 800-space Goodale Garage in February to serve event attendees as well as nearby restaurant and community partners in the Short North Arts District. The High Street facade of the center is scheduled to begin a restoration in March.

Wisconsin
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide announced that The Westin Milwaukee is set to debut in summer 2017 on the US Bank campus downtown. The newly constructed hotel will feature 220 guest rooms that overlook Lake Michigan and the downtown skyline. There will be 9,000 square feet of meeting space, a fine dining restaurant and a lobby bar featuring the brand’s SuperFoodsRX menu. The property will connect directly to the US Bank Complex and is close to several corporate headquarters, the Wisconsin Center, the BMO Harris Bradley Center and Milwaukee Art Museum. The hotel is also within walking distance to East Town Market, the historic Third Ward District and the shops and restaurants on the Milwaukee River Walk.
