Florida conjures images of every seaside postcard cliche, from picture-perfect beaches to impossibly staged sunsets amid stands of palm trees, from the Magic Kingdom and welcoming smiles of Disney’s cartoon mice to the magic of its underwater world, filled with manatees and other tropical treasures. Dig deeper and the state is just as rich in business amenities, making it a true paradise for groups.
For this year’s Meetings Today Florida, Lisa Simundson hits the high rails and plunders the high seas to guide us through a full spectrum of adventures in the Sunshine State.
In her state of the industry report, “For the Record,” Simundson details the gains the meetings industry is making across the state, including increases in occupancy rates, meeting venues and off-site options as well as sheer numbers of visitors.
She heads out on the town in “A Night to Remember,” dabbling in everything from mixology classes to late-night honky-tonks. There are plenty of daytime undertakings as well in “Be a Sport,” which showcases the state’s professional sports venues as well as its array of teambuilding opportunities.
Railroad buffs will find a detailed history of the state’s train travel along with new and upcoming rail options in “All Aboard.” Pirate wannabes, meanwhile, can hoist the Jolly Roger in “Ahoy, Meetings,” which focuses on pirate-themed venues and other options for groups.
Simundson also rounds up the wide variety of group tours on offer throughout the state in “Florida’s Tour de Force,” while “Making News in the Sunshine State” outlines major projects in the works and on the horizon.
