The Virginia-based Buchanan Motels franchise began construction of a new, unflagged hotel last year. The 530-unit, 23-floor hotel will be located on 17th Avenue across from an indoor waterpark and parking garage. The hotel is slated for completion in 2017.
The 220-unit, 22-story Hilton Grand Vacations Club timeshare resort opened last summer in downtown Myrtle Beach. The $41.5 million project was the first new lodging property to be built in the area in six years.
The 100-suite Homewood Suites Oceanfront Resort & Conference Center is slated to open this spring. This $25 million project is the first oceanfront property for Homewood Suites, and will share amenities with the adjacent Hampton Inn Oceanfront. All suites have kitchens and private balconies, and the property will also feature a 300-seat conference center, a fitness center, an on-site chapel, a bistro and a workout room for women only.
The 500-room Springmaid Beach Resort is currently undergoing a three-phase renovation and will be reflagged as the Doubletree Resort by Hilton Myrtle Beach Oceanfront this year. All renovations are slated for completion by September and include an overhaul of the main building, front desk, lobby, lounge, entertainment deck, oceanfront restaurant, quick-serve restaurant and conference center.
Duplin Winery, the largest winery in the South, opened a South Carolina location last year. The 15,000-square-foot tasting station can accommodate more than 200 guests for tastings, and guests can also watch the bottling process or enjoy the courtyard or retail store. The winery is located adjacent to Barefoot Landing and Alligator Adventure.
The Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach is expanding with a new 30,000-square-foot center in the Market Common district. The center will feature a bakery and other labs, training kitchens, an outdoor barbecue kitchen, a 100-seat restaurant, a greenhouse, a wine cellar and a amphitheater. Construction will be finished this summer.
