Paradise by Marriott, a collection of nine resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico, launched the Carry-on Charity program for groups that want to give back while traveling.
The participating resorts provide groups with need lists from local charities prior to their arrival and attendees pack items to donate. Then, while on-property, groups can either deliver the items themselves or have the hotel transport the donations.
Groups that are interested in participating have duffel bags sent before the trip along with a list of needs, specific for each location, and a $25 food and beverage credit is given to any attendee that brings a full bag to offset checked bag fees. Groups can also have attendees pack the supplies in their own suitcases.
The need lists include items such as personal hygiene toiletries, children’s clothing, vitamins and supplements, school supplies and toys. When five or more bags are received from a group, the property’s general manager presents an award to the organization.
