Planner’s Perspective: Betsy Wiersma

What type of meeting did you hold in Breckenridge?
A women’s retreat from June 9 through 11, 2016, called Success at the Summit.

Was anyone particularly helpful in executing your event?
Kelly Virgin from Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center partnered with Donna Horii from the Breckenridge Tourism Office to create a package to fit my specific needs. They assigned their rock-star coordinator, Erin McLeod, to my event—she was super fantastic every minute of the planning and management process.

What do your attendees seem to enjoy the most about Breckenridge?
We loved not only having a perfect Beaver Run Resort with venues to fit our every need, but also having an event at the Arts District Campus in downtown Breckenridge that my guests could walk to. It was fantastic to have a sunset behind the Rockies as we ate s’mores and enjoyed live music and crafts downtown. And the walk/shuttles combo accommodated every guest.

Are there any experiences you would recommend for groups meeting in Breckenridge?
BreckCreate and the historic district.

We also had a super successful hot-tub party with the six outdoor tubs on property at Beaver Run Resort. The party hub was near the arcade and my guests grabbed tokens and played like little kids! We had an LPGA professional golfer host the putt-putt in the arcade. And of course the wonderful food made it perfect.

How does Breckenridge compare to other cities where you have hosted meetings?
I must say Donna Horii and the Breckenridge Tourism Office are the best team I have worked with in my 35 years as a meeting planner. She treated me like a partner, brought two fantastic local speakers to my program and gave memorable gifts to my attendees. She was a co-creator and co-host with style. And the entire team worked together for the good of my event and the experiences of my guests.

Would you return/recommend it to other meeting planners?
Heck yes! My event is heading to an outdoor camp venue for the fall, and if we choose to go back to a resort, I will choose Breckenridge. My feedback from my attendees has been five-stars and they are still feeling the special love and hospitality of the amazing mountain town. Yes, I will be back!
