Planner’s Perspective: Gillian Hall

Media Relations Manager
Destination Quebec
Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Briefly describe what your job entails.
My day job is media relations manager for Destination Quebec. In my spare time I’ve acted as meeting planner for the SATW (Society of American Travel Writers) Canadian Chapter Meeting, which was recently held in Sheridan, Wyoming.

Briefly describe your recent meeting in Sheridan.
We conducted business meetings, professional development sessions and local tours. We had the opportunity to discover Sheridan and the surrounding area with the mandate to provide story ideas for the journalists. Sheridan provided half-day and full-day tours to discover the Bighorn Mountains, centuries-old guest ranches, historic downtown, Indian battle sites, and beyond.

What did your attendees seem to enjoy the most?
Rolls Royce chose Sheridan to present their new Dawn convertible, along with other models, at our opening ceremony.

“The Rolls Royce Dawn is an exhilarating feat of engineering, and a car like no other, while Sheridan’s unique blend of ruggedness and cultural cache make it the perfect place for an American road trip,” said Elizabeth Williams, product communications officer for Rolls Royce.

The attendees were able to view these magnificent autos and have pictures taken behind the wheel. The closing ceremony at the Sheridan Inn with an authentic pow-wow was a big hit, as was the ride in the Rolls Royce vehicles to stargaze at Fort Kearny.

How does Sheridan compare to other places where you have hosted meetings?
The scenery and wide-open space is beautiful. This was a unique destination for SATW to hold its meeting.

Would you return/recommend Sheridan to other planners?
Yes. The Holiday Inn Sheridan-Convention Center facilities were more than adequate for our needs and the staff was wonderful to work with. Sheridan rolled out the red carpet for us and the residents are warm and friendly. Sheridan has a lot to offer.
