Kit Pollaski, President
Jambalaya Arts Inc.
Oshkosh, WI
Briefly share a little about Jambalaya Arts and your role in the organization.
Jambalaya Arts Inc. is a nonprofit, artist-run gallery and social club. We've been around for over 16 years, and went nonprofit in July 2015. We enrich the community as a whole through our collective efforts to bring art, in all its forms, to life.
I am president, and an artist of different mediums, including tailoring and painting.
Does Jambalaya Arts offer any group experiences?
Jambalaya offers different creative experiences for the public, everything from painting to sculpture to rock polishing. Most of our current activities are geared toward children, but this will be changing in early 2017 when we will begin offering classes for adults only. We also offer groups space for meetings.
Our experience-based events are geared so that anyone can see how easy it is to be creative and to make a piece of art.
How would you describe the arts in Oshkosh overall?
There seems to be more of a focus on art in Oshkosh because of the tireless, dedicated effort over the years that local artists put into making it a focus.
Gallery Walk, which is held the first Saturday of each month, from 6 to 9 p.m., started because the various galleries downtown demanded a dedicated event from the city. In April 2016 Jambalaya Arts Inc. took over, and now curates the Gallery Walk website (www.oshkoshgallerywalk.info).
Is there an arts experience in Oshkosh you'd recommend for meeting planners bringing a group to your town?
When it comes to experiencing art in Oshkosh, hands-down the event to attend is Gallery Walk. Apart from Gallery Walk, there is a beautiful historic downtown area to enjoy and a wonderful public museum. Also, the Paine Art Center and Gardens is another great stop to enjoy art in Oshkosh.
