Scott Kershaw
Chapter Advisor (Golf Chairman)
First State Chapter Professional Aviation Maintenance Assn. (PAMA)
Wilmington, Delaware
Briefly state what your job entails.
PAMA is a national group of aviation mechanics and vendors with a local chapter based in Wilmington called First State Chapter. I was treasurer of the group for 16 years and a chapter advisor now for 11 year.
What type of meeting did you hold in Wilmington?
We hold two annual events, both at Deerfield. In February we hold a meeting called “IA Renewal” for aviation mechanics to receive eight hours of training toward their FAA certificates. This event draws around 325 people. Then in June we do a golf outing that draws about 110 to 120 golfers.
Was anyone particularly helpful in executing your event?
Deerfield’s Jeff Robinson, general manager, and Chris Boos, director of golf operations, have been awesome to work with.
What do your attendees seem to enjoy the most about Deerfield?
From the ballroom to the golf course, it’s just a beautiful setting to have an event.
Please share a few details about the golf event you held.
I’ve been in charge of the golf outing for 11 years, nine of which were held at Deerfield. The course is always in wonderful shape and the staff is top of the line. If I need something or have a concern, they have always done their best to get it done. We serve a box lunch at the beginning and a buffet dinner after the golf, and we always get rave reviews on the food and the course.
Are there any experiences you would recommend for groups meeting in Wilmington?
If you have any leisure time built into the meeting, you have Delaware Park, Hagley and Winterthur museums, and also Philadelphia, Washington, New York and Atlantic City are all within a couple of hours. This is a good central location if you want to do a day trip without the cost of staying in a big city.
How does Wilmington compare to other cities where you have hosted meetings?
There is a lot of history and things to see and do within close proximity to this area. That’s not always the case at meetings I’ve attended in other cities.
