In Hudson Valley, 90 miles north of New York City, the retreat-like resort Mohonk Mountain House unveiled its first new accommodations in over 100 years, the Grove Lodge. A National Historic Landmark and Historic Hotel of America, the property has been owned and operated by the same family since it opened in 1869.
The 7,000-square-foot, two-story venue with six guest rooms and a great room offers another on-property space option.
“For 147 years, the Smiley Family has been committed to conserving this unique natural environment along the Shawangunk Ridge and creating unforgettable experiences for our guests within it,” said Eric Gullickson, vice president and general manager of Mohonk Mountain House. “Grove Lodge exemplifies this perfectly—its secluded location is surrounded by ferns within a mature oak glen, yet is only a five-minute walk from our historic mountain house.”
The lodge is designed with custom furniture by local craftsmen and with sustainable technologies and materials like reclaimed wood, LED lighting and geo-thermal heating and cooling.
Throughout the space, artwork from the region’s community is displayed, including pieces from artist Nora Scarlett’s Trunks in the Gunks collection. Amenities such as chocolates from Hudson Valley Chocolates, locally brewed beers and spirits from Catskill Distilling Company and Tuthilltown Spirits, and wines from nearby vineyards highlight the resort’s connection to the Hudson Valley and ties to the surrounding community.
The property’s additional 14 meeting venues include the 3,100-square-foot Parlor that can accommodate 350 guests and the 2,400-square-foot Mountain Lake Conference House that can seat nearly 200 people. The resort’s dining rooms can also be used for private events.
