Managing Stress During the Holiday Season

Katie Netherton, senior event manager for CLINK, an event production firm and Destination Management Company, and International Live Events Association (ILEA) member, shared some tips with Meetings Today on managing the stress of holiday season meetings and events and how to make them stand out.

A red and green color palette and a Christmas tree stuck in the corner of the room can feel dated. Netherton suggests using riffs on the traditional and opt for neon green and hot pink for a festive modern twist, or focus on the winter season and not just the Christmas holiday.

“A winter wonderland theme with white or all metallics are great for that time of year, especially for events that aren’t the standard Christmas party, or are in January or February,” Netherton said.

Recent clients really went non-traditional with no connection to the holidays despite being held that in the winter season.

“We had a holiday event that was movie-themed with different films represented in each room and even included giant Oscar-style statues as stage decor,” Netherton explained.

And as far as dealing with both personal and professional stress in December?

“The most important thing is to make sure to enjoy the season,” Netherton said. “Have coffee with a co-worker, drinks with friends, and take time for the little things throughout the holidays.”
