Between its long history and flair for architectural style, Miami Beach is home to off-site venues that stand apart in South Florida, whether culturally minded or straight-up visually amazing. Following are some of the stand-outs:
The Bass Museum of Art
Set within a beautiful coral rock Art Deco structure, the Bass Museum of Art (www.thebass.org) focuses on contemporary art, presenting mid-career and established artists as well as works that incorporate culture, design and architecture.
“The museum’s walls carry more than a 50-year legacy as the first public exhibition space in South Florida and have grown to host some of the most intriguing contemporary artists of today,” said George Lindemann, president of the Bass’ board of directors.
Following a massive renovation, the new Bass Museum debuts in spring 2017 with more than 10,000 square feet of new programmable space, including four new galleries, an education facility, museum store and cafe. Already available for off-site events, the transformation promises even more space and creativity for private functions.
The Colony Theatre
A lavishly adorned former Paramount movie palace from the 1930s, the Colony Theatre (www.colonytheatremiamibeach.com) can seat 430 in the main auditorium, which boasts perfect visual angles of the stage from every seat, while also offering a variety of rental options.
“We’re equipped for all kinds of events, with-state-of-the-art projection, audio and visual capabilities, various breakout rooms, unlimited free parking, and a plethora of food and shopping options within walking distance,” said Jerusha Liu, venue and production manager. “Over the past year, the Colony has had beauty product launches, community forums, religious assemblies, parties, shows, concerts and more.”
1111 Lincoln Road
Parking is never a problem at 1111 Lincoln Road (www.1111lincolnroad.com), a parking garage with event space for up to 700 on the 7th floor. The building’s striking design features a 360-degree view of the city, including the bridge from the mainland, the beach itself and depending on the timing, a spectacular sunset. On-site “concept shopping” will have attendees browsing before or after the event.
