Detour: Peru

Winding through the Peruvian Andes, stopping in remote villages and famed sites, like Arequipa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site city, and Lake Titicaca, will soon be available for groups aboard the luxury sleeper train Belmond Andean Explorer.

Scheduled to begin service in March 2017, guests will get a chance to take in the scenery and get a feel for the ancient Inca culture in comfortable accommodations. The sleeper train, with 34 cabins, will feature hand-woven Peruvian fabrics and Alpaca wool, and will be able to accommodate up to 68 guests.

Four different experiences are offered in either one-night or two-night journeys, such as the three-day, two-night “Peruvian Highlands” and the one-night “Spirit of the Water” trips that explore the region, including Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, across the plains of the Andes and the Colca Canyon.

On-board, there is a lounge car that will feature a bar, piano music and two dining cars offering Peruvian-focused menus using local, seasonal ingredients. There will also be an observation car with an open-air deck.

Belmond is an international collection of 46 hotels, trains and river cruises that provides unique experiences in 22 countries. Throughout the group of venues, there are spaces for meetings and events of all sizes from large conferences to small retreats at iconic hotels, private estates and remote lodges, as well as a fleet of trains and watercraft.
