The Hilton President Kansas City started a renovation of guest rooms in November that is scheduled for completion in February. The hotel will remain open and the renovation will have limited hours so as not to disrupt guests. The hotel features 213 guest rooms, eight meeting rooms, a boardroom and a ballroom. Also on-property are two restaurants and the Drum Lounge.
An 800-room Hyatt property is currently in development in downtown Kansas City. The new hotel will be across from the Kansas City Convention Center Grand Ballroom, and will feature approximately 75,000 square feet of event space, 9,000 square feet of garden space and 15,450 square feet of retail, bar, lounge and restaurant space. The project will break ground in 2017 and is slated to open in 2019.
The historic Savoy Hotel in Kansas City, closed since 2014, will be repurposed and renovated into a 21c Museum Hotel. The boutique property is slated to open in 2018.
Kansas City started the new KC Streetcar (www.kcstreetcar.org) service in May. The streetcar service connections the downtown convention district with some of the city’s most popular entertainment areas. The service is free and features 16 stops between the River Market area and Crown Center.
The U.S. Soccer Training Center broke ground in Kansas City, Kansas, earlier this year. The campus will include an 80,000-square-foot National Training and Coaching Development Center, which is slated to open next November. Future developments include the National Coaching Center and the Children’s Mercy Sports Medicine and Rehab Center.
