Wondering what’s on the horizon for associations in 2017? SmithBucklin has narrowed down a “20 for 2017” in Circuit, its annual publication.
The report details 20 key issues, trends and developments believed to impact associations throughout the year.
“These 20 pieces give us an opportunity to showcase the thoughts and insights of association experts who are continually thinking about the road ahead as they work closely alongside volunteer leaders, association staff and industry partners,” said Matt Sanderson, president and CEO of SmithBucklin.
Here are a few of the “20 for 2017”:
Associations 2027: Yes, 2027! Associations are more vital than ever and the foundation for the future is strong. Recent research (see sidebar) and insights from the field make it clear that associations will continue to play critical roles in industries and professions.
A Focus on Members: Membership retention and recruitment will continue to top association agendas and include acquiring new members, developing new methods for member engagement, improving member retention and diversifying membership/attracting new audiences.
Purpose—The Secret Weapon for Associations: Resent research indicates organizations that instill a sense of purpose have higher rates of enduring success in terms of business performance. At their core, associations are purpose-led and, therefore, inspire and deliver powerful calls to action.
Do Good, Feel Good, Look Good: The interest in, and demand for, opportunities to make an impact on altruistic causes through association events and other activities is increasing. Three suggestions include the following: Consider the impact on future generations; give back while networking; and identify an umbrella cause.
