Wild in Wichita: Tanganyika Wildlife Park

Alpacas, giraffes, leopards and penguins aren’t exactly species you expect to find in Kansas. But at the Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Wichita, visitors can see, learn about and interact with more than 300 reptiles, mammals, birds and amphibians, many of which are rare and endangered.

And that’s just one of the nine area attractions Visit Wichita is partnering with for the launch of “Wichita Experiences” to offer hands-on adventures that showcase the local history, culture, landmarks and sites. In addition to the Tanganyika Wildlife Park, the CVB partnered with Botanica, The Wichita Gardens; CityArts; Exploration Place; Mid-America All-Indian Center; Museum of World Treasures; Old Cowtown Museum; Sedgwick County Zoo; and Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum for exclusive opportunities that will launch at the end of April.

“A city that was once home to cattle drives, Wichita has risen out of the Old West dust, with its contemporary art museums, revitalized downtown, surrounding areas and distinctive landmarks, and shines as a lively destination right in the heart of the United States,” said CEO and President of Visit Wichita Susie Santo.

At Tanganyika Wildlife Park, participants will be able to get behind-the-scenes encounters with the penguins, including the chance to feed the aquatic birds. The “Stories from Time” experience at the Museum of World Treasures will include an interactive tour to see, smell, touch and hear the history surrounding some of the museum’s most special artifacts as well as a first-hand look at what is currently under research in the curatorial work room and view artifacts that are not on display to the public.
