South Upgrades & Openings (March 2017)

Florida
The Plymouth reopened in Miami Beach following a renovation and refurbishment. The four-story building originally opened in 1940 and became an art deco icon in the city’s Collins Park neighborhood. The property, along with a sister hotel, also owned by Think Hospitality Group, is spearheading the transformation of this Miami Beach area that is also home to the Bass Museum of Art. The 110-room hotel features Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill and Plymouth Grill, the all-day lobby bar that also serves the pool area. The original entrance remains and offers outdoor space with swing benches and lounging areas, and the oval-shaped lobby has antique chairs, lamps and sofas along with new leather and handcrafted wood furnishings. The hotel offers event, meeting and private dining space, including the pool deck, which can accommodate up to 300 guests, and Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill has capacity for 600 people for a reception.

Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach recently opened with 343 guest rooms. The two-tower resort, located near Pier 60, offers more than 22,000 square feet of event space across 12 rooms, including the 10,600-square-foot Dunes Ballroom, with a capacity for nearly 1,200 guests. Each guest room has views of the ocean or the Intercoastal Waterway and features water-inspired decor and floor-to-ceiling windows, most with balconies. Restaurants include Dock’s, the pool bar and grill; eSKPades, the cafe and lobby bar; and Ocean Hai, an Asian-fusion restaurant. Other amenities include a pool that overlooks the beach, Spa Pallavi and a fitness center.

Georgia
Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel & Convention Center unveiled the renovation of its meeting and event space. The project included new carpeting, wall coverings, artwork and lighting as well as added power outlets across the hotel’s more than 65,000 square feet of meeting space, which includes 32 event rooms. The Garden Court Area offers 14,000 square feet of prefunction space with large community tables equipped with power connections. Locally inspired artwork includes Georgia on my Mind-themed murals, and images of the city’s history can be seen outside the nearly 16,300-square-foot grand ballroom. The 510-room hotel is also directly connected to the Cobb Galleria Centre, which offers an additional 320,000 square feet of space.

North Carolina
Sheraton Raleigh Hotel debuted its multimillion-dollar renovation, which included enhancements to the 353 guest rooms, corridors, fitness center and club lounge. Guest rooms received new beds, furniture with integrated power, hardwood flooring, bathroom updates and headboards with reading lamps. The hotel also received new furniture and decor updates for both the lobby and the Sheraton Club Room. The property is one block from the Raleigh Convention Center and within walking distance of the state capitol, the Duke Energy Performing Arts Center and Red Hat Amphitheater. The hotel boasts more than 18,000 square feet of meeting space, including the 5,000-square-foot Hanover Ballroom, which can accommodate 500 guests.

Texas
San Antonio Marriott Northwest completed a $17 million renovation. All 295 guest rooms were redesigned and updated with new technology. The hotel’s seven-story atrium lobby was refreshed with new communal and individual work tables and seating areas. The property’s 10,000 square feet of meeting space, which includes the 6,000-square-foot Sam Houston Ballroom and five additional meeting rooms, was also upgraded. The new Asado Urban Grill serves Tex-Mex-inspired dishes, while the Asado Urban Grill Bar offers handcrafted cocktails, local craft beers and small bites.

Caribbean
Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino completed updates to its Great Room lobby and Lobby Bar and introduced an on-site Starbucks. The property’s two-story fitness center was also renovated. The Lobby Bar was refreshed with a new bar and seating. The lobby’s Great Room has new light fixtures, furniture and decor, and new carpeting was added to the resort’s 411 guest rooms, corridors and atrium. The resort offers 10,450 square feet of meeting space, including a ballroom with a capacity for nearly 900.
