Northern Ohio on Display

Art is on exhibit throughout northern Ohio at a variety of outlets. The region is home to world-class art museums, studios and galleries, and even hotels are incorporating the area’s love of art in new ways.

Cleveland

In addition to the Cleveland Museum of Art, which celebrated its centennial in 2016, the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland (MOCA) showcases cutting-edge art and iconic architecture in the Uptown neighborhood.

The new Hilton Cleveland Downtown features works of art from local artists, including 2,800 Cleveland residents who submitted selfies that make up a mosaic depiction of the city’s skyline. At the Westin Cleveland Downtown, guests can download a mobile app to learn about the more than 1,500 unique pieces of artwork on display at the property.  

Akron

The Akron Art Museum boasts an eclectic modern collection. This year, its Inside | Out community-activated art program will return to four new communities in the area. Reproductions of pieces in the museum’s collection will be placed in neighborhoods and outdoor spaces from May to October.

Summit Artspace is home to gallery space, studios and classrooms representing more than 40 arts organizations. Groups can host meetings and events in the 2,980-square-foot multipurpose space on the second floor.

Canton

The Canton Arts District revitalized part of downtown by restoring several historic buildings. Now the neighborhood is filled with lofts, galleries, artists’ studios, live-music venues, shops, restaurants, bars and public art.

The Canton Museum of Art was founded in 1935 and focuses on 19th and 20th century American artists, specifically works on paper and ceramics, beginning in the 1950s.

Toledo

Since opening in 1901, the Toledo Museum of Art has garnered a global reputation for its collection of more than 30,000 works of art, its education programs and its architecture. Part of the museum is the postmodern Glass Pavilion housing a world-renowned glass collection featuring more than 5,000 works of art from ancient to contemporary times.

Bowling Green

The Bowling Green State University Fine Arts Center Galleries produce 12 to 14 exhibitions each year showcasing contemporary art by nationally recognized artists, faculty and students. The BGSU Fine Arts Center Galleries feature three exhibition spaces, including the Hiroko Nakamoto Japanese Ceremonial Arts Gallery for traditional Japanese arts.
