Intriguing shopping opportunities await interested attendees convening in the meetings-friendly destinations of Central Illinois.
In historic downtown Springfield there are “charming boutiques, antique shops and hidden treasures all within walking distance,” according to Gina Gemberling, executive director for Visit Springfield.
Among the shops here are Studio on 6th, an art co-op that sells the works of local artists; Elf Shelf Books & Music (www.elfshelfspringfield.com), where patrons will find used fiction, non-fiction, CDs and vinyl; and What the Shirt, which makes custom T-shirts on-site.
The Gables of Springfield, a popular upscale shopping area, is an option for those in the group who prefer brand names.
“The Gables not only offers clothing, jewelry and pottery options but two popular local eateries,” Gemberling said. “Stop in Pease’s at BUNN Gourmet and grab a latte and quiche to get the shopping started, and then relax and enjoy an appetizer and cocktail at PAO Bistro when you are ready to relax.”
A shopping outing in the Bloomington-Normal area might include a stop at Normal-based The Garlic Press, which sells everything from local handmade greeting cards and FLAX clothing to kitchenware and artisan cheeses, and Beyond Normal LLC, where home decor items include table runners, wall hangings and vintage furniture.
In Peoria, attendees will find unique tchotchkes, jewelry, home goods and more at Relics, and even more gifts at Olio & Vino, a purveyor of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sauces, jams, pasta and more. Olio & Vino also has an in-store wine-tasting station and offers cooking classes and demonstrations.
Groups can also wine-taste and shop for gifts in Champaign County at St. Joseph-based Wyldewood Cellars, which has a gift shop and a lounge for enjoying a glass of wine.
And at Art Mart, a Champaign standby for 50 years, attendees can grab a bite at the on-site deli and check out a variety of gifts in the modern living and toy departments.
“In its new location, Art Mart offers an expansive wine and gourmet food selection, along with unique home decor, clothing and children’s games and activities,” said Terri Reifsteck, vice president of marketing for Visit Champaign County.
