Industry Veteran Loretta Lowe Passes Away

Loretta Lowe, age 59, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017, at the UC San Francisco Medical Center. She worked as a meeting and event planner for several companies in the Bay Area and later branched out as an independent planner. Loretta was born on March 19, 1958, in Bellflower, Calif.

She was a long-time friend and contributor to Meetings Today, serving as a valuable resource for our feature stories that run in the magazine in print and on the website, in addition to hosting webinars and contributing many video tips over the years.

For the past 18 years, Loretta was on the faculty of San Francisco State University, where she taught classes in event coordination. Meetings Today Vice President & Chief Content Director Tyler Davidson occasionally visited her class there.

“Loretta was a very sweet person and her kindness extended beyond her professional life,” Davidson said. “She served as a mentor to her students and even took on interns who were interested in learning more about the industry.”

Loretta also was a regular volunteer with “All Hands Volunteers,” an organization that serves communities in the wake of natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, an earthquake in Pisco, Peru, and Superstorm Sandy.

A memorial in honor of Loretta’s many contributions to society will be held later this year. Donations may be made to The Loretta Lowe Memorial Events, Travel, and Tourism Scholarship here.

Donations can also be made via mail to Office of University Development, San Francisco State University, 1600 Holloway Ave., ADM 153, San Francisco, CA 94132 (write scholarship info on memo line).
