Opened last month, Hilton Norfolk The Main is a luxurious addition to Norfolk’s downtown scene. The $175 million, 21-story hotel offers 300 guest rooms, including 10 luxury and one presidential suite. Becoming Norfolk’s largest convention and meeting space, the Exchange incorporates an 18,382-square-foot Grand Ballroom and 50,000 square feet of IACC-certified conference space. Accommodating groups of up to 2,000, venues include state-of-the-art classrooms and tiered conference rooms, as well as boardrooms and multimedia spaces. Three signature restaurants include Saltine, featuring a glassed-in private dining room, and Grain, Norfolk’s first rooftop garden lounge and patio.
In January, the 468-room Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel, offering 46,000 square feet of flexible space, commenced a comprehensive $10 million phased revitalization project that improved its guest rooms, lobby, restaurant, fitness center and meeting space. The project is scheduled to reach full completion in mid-May.
HAMPTON
Plans were recently announced for an $11.8 million, 109-suite Hyatt Place (http://place.hyatt.com) near the Hampton Roads Convention Center, aiming for completion in 2018.
Announced in February, the 173-room Crowne Plaza Hampton Marina Hotel is among the first properties approved for conversion to Hilton’s recently introduced Tapestry boutique flag, with completion by late 2018.
NEWPORT NEWS
Following its purchase in December 2016 by LTD Hospitality Group, the former Magnuson Hotel is set to reopen by the end of 2017 as a full-service Holiday Inn. The hotel will feature a complete renovation of all 183 guest rooms, lobby, restaurant and 10,000-plus square feet of meeting space, and will incorporate IACC design standards covering meeting rooms, F&B and service.
Offering five meeting rooms and 20,659 square feet of total meeting space, Newport News Marriott at City Center recently completed the renovation of its 256 guest rooms, including extensive upgrades to the presidential and junior suites.
Offering 672 square feet of space, the 125-suite Residence Inn Marriott Newport News Airport completed a full interior renovation in 2016.
