Visible from outer space, the Great Salt Lake is among Earth’s most intriguing outdoor features. Groups have ready access to this natural wonder via Antelope Island State Park, one of the diverse draws in Davis County, just north of Salt Lake City.
Reached via the scenic 7.2-mile Davis County causeway, the Great Salt Lake’s largest island features beaches, wild backcountry and millions of migratory birds. Recreational activities include kayaking, hiking and biking, birding and of course floating in the Great Salt Lake’s waters. Late each fall, groups can witness the awesome spectacle of the Bison Roundup, in which riders on horseback corral the island’s 600-plus free-ranging bison.
Other diversions include 11 golf courses, the Lagoon Amusement Park and cultural venues such as the 1,800-seat Kenley Amphitheater, which via the Davis Arts Council, attracts major talent such as Chicago, The Doobie Brothers and Olivia Newton-John.
For meetings and events, groups can use the Davis Conference Center, offering 70,000-plus square feet of flexible space off I-15 just 20 minutes north of Salt Lake International Airport. Also off the freeway is the multipurpose Legacy Events Center, featuring a 38,400-square-foot indoor arena with fixed stadium seating for 2,200, plus Wi-Fi and a built-in sound system.
Attached to the Davis Conference Center, the 147-Hilton Garden Inn Hotel is among some 20 (and growing) national mid-range and budget brands offering some 1,800 rooms in the area.
