Tropical Storm Cindy is slowly making its way toward the Gulf Coast, bringing with it the potential for life-threatening flash flooding stretching from Texas to parts of Florida, forecasters said Wednesday.

According to The New York Times, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Northwest Florida are expected to feel the effects of the storm, which is expected to be in full force in Texas and Louisiana late Wednesday or early in the a.m. on Thursday. Cindy could bring 6 to 9 inches of rain (or more) to the listed states.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ordered the State Operations Center on Tuesday to raise its readiness level from level four/normal conditions to level three/increased readiness. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey and Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards both declared a state of emergency in their respective states, due to potential for severe weather.
