Q&A with Pat Martin // Owner and Pitmaster
Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint // Nashville
What are your favorite things about living and working in Nashville?
It’s the best mid-major city in the country, hands down! There are so many reasons but the fact that Nashville is the hottest city in America right now should say enough. The community is great and people are humble. We’re all genuinely happy for each other’s successes.
How would you describe the current culinary scene in Nashville?
It’s awesome and diverse. The growth is faster than I’m comfortable with. Supply and demand is out of whack with regards to the amount and level of staffing that we need to sustain growth in our culinary community.
Please recommend a few great culinary experiences for groups meeting in Nashville.
Man, that’s tough because there are so many. City House, Husk and Rolf & Daughters are always on my restaurant list, along with Margot Cafe & Bar, Bastion, Urban Cowboy, 404 Kitchen and Arnold’s Country Kitchen. I just can’t list them all.
What makes dining at Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint special for groups?
We treat you like family, it’s as simple as that. We’ve worked hard to create a comfortable and easygoing environment. We don’t have a freezer or microwave in any of our restaurants, and we make everything from scratch every day.
Do you have a favorite dish that you like to prepare for groups?
Any dish we make with our whole hog, but I would have to say the Redneck Taco.
