As the Dominican Republic’s largest city and capital, Santo Domingo is an increasingly important business destination, and has debuted several new reasons for groups to visit.
This bustling metropolis is now home to a new 3,500-person convention center, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Convention Center, and five new hotels are slated to open within the next two years. Among the newest hotels is the luxurious InterContinental Real Santo Domingo, which has meeting and event space for 500 people, including a luxurious rooftop pool and bar area.
The government, meanwhile, continues to pump money into the historic city center, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with some 850 historical buildings recently renovated, as well as a variety of museum renovations, new sidewalks and streetlights. The city’s famed waterfront Malecon boulevard is also undergoing improvements and upgrades.
