Kevin Patterson // Executive Director // The 200 Club // Cape Cod, Mass.
Briefly state what your job entails.
The 200 Club is a private social golf club founded in 1957 for the purpose of traveling to great golf destinations with good friends. I am responsible for helping the board of directors identify four such locations each year and then executing all aspects of the trip.
What type of event did you hold at Sun Valley Resort?
We held one of our traditional golf events, which is five nights with five dinners, three rounds of golf and an off-day for touring/sightseeing.
Was anyone at Sun Valley Resort particularly helpful in executing your event?
Mark Gillespie (Sun Valley Resort sales executive) has been a pleasure to work with in contracting both trips to Sun Valley, and Michael Hoover, my conference services manager, was also outstanding. Jeff Petersen and his team at the golf clubs (Sun Valley and Elkhorn) do a terrific job in both advance organization and on-site execution. The entire staff makes it a pleasure to bring a group there.
What did your attendees seem to enjoy the most about their stay at Sun Valley Resort?
The setting in the mountains was of course the highlight, but they also appreciated the high quality of the new lodge as well as the great variety of group dining venues available.
Are there any experiences you would recommend for groups meeting at Sun Valley Resort?
Two things jump to mind from this recent trip, first being the Sun Valley Pavilion. As timing worked out, Foreigner was in town for a show there the night we arrived and many members, and myself as well, went to the show. It is really an awesome venue to see a show, and it just so happens that I really like Foreigner, but would recommend going no matter who is performing.
Second, we hosted one of our cocktail receptions on the Sawtooth Putting Course at Sun Valley Golf Club so that members could get a drink and then take on the course. The resort supplied putters and balls so that no one had to bring equipment, and it was really a great and unique hour that would be fun for any group.
Please share a little about your other golf events.
We played three days, two rounds at Sun Valley Golf Club and one round at Elkhorn. Both courses are very convenient to the village, and quite scenic with many memorable holes on each. Playing conditions are excellent and I can highly recommend that groups looking to play golf consider Sun Valley.
How does Sun Valley Resort compare to other places you have hosted your events?
Sun Valley is a very complete destination in terms of activities, many of which I have mentioned, as well as shooting, hiking and other outdoor adventures. The value is excellent for the quality they present. I think most meeting planners would find the pricing for accommodations and F&B, especially in the summer, very reasonable compared to comparable resorts.
Would you return/recommend Sun Valley Resort to other meeting planners?
I would absolutely recommend Sun Valley to other meeting planners and I’m already looking forward to returning.
