Heading Outdoors in Warm Weather Reno

Many flock to the Reno area in the winter months for world-class skiing and other winter sports, but in the warmer months, the adventure really heats up in northern Nevada. Here are some activities that get groups outdoors to experience the region’s beauty.

Water

Sierra Adventures offers all kinds of teambuilding and group tours, including kayaking down the Truckee River. The team, equipped with all needed gear as well as food and beverage, will pick up at any hotel and take the group up river. Ranging in level depending on the group, the tour takes participants down the river back to the kayak center in downtown Reno.

For soft adventure, charter sailboats on Lake Tahoe are available. Tahoe Sailing Adventures offers charters from May through October and groups can choose from a 2.5-hour sail to a full-day charter with 30 or more guests.

Land

The Guinness World Records’ “World’s Tallest Climbing Wall” is located in downtown Reno at the Whitney Peak Hotel. BaseCamp, the property’s climbing gym and fitness center, features a 164-foot outdoor wall and a 7,000-square-foot indoor competition-level bouldering park. Teambuilding options are available that use coaching, problem-solving, teamwork and communication that culminates with conquering the “big wall.”

Nevada is home to a large population of wild horses, with many roaming free in the region. Sonny Boys Tours offers excursions to get a glimpse of these wild horses with four different tours.

Air

Possibly the best way to see the expansive Sierra Nevada Mountains, Lake Tahoe and surrounding terrain is from the air. Lake Tahoe Balloons offers private group charter hot-air balloon rides that take guests high above Lake Tahoe.

Another option to get these panoramic views is with Sierra Air Helicopters. Aviation training, flight simulation, adventure flights or more relaxing rides to take in the views are all available.
