China Live San Francisco, founded by restaurateurs George Chen and his wife Cindy Wong-Chen, recently debuted as one of the city’s most innovative new epicurean attractions and event venues. Chinese cuisine and culture take center stage in the sleek 30,000-square-foot, multilevel facility, which serves distinctive food and drink while educating guests on the history and influence of the country’s gastronomy.
Opening in phases this year, highlights currently include Market Restaurant, Oolong Cafe, bars and a retail marketplace with specialty food products such as spices, teas, condiments and produce, as well as cookware and cookbooks. Interactive tastings and streaming videos of traditional Chinese cooking techniques bring the experience to life.
The venue boasts exhibition kitchens fronting its Marketplace Restaurant, one with a giant Chinese earthen oven for slow roasting. Peking-style stone oven-roasted duck with seasonal fruit glazes is one of the signature dishes. Meanwhile, one of the creative Chinese-inspired craft cocktails is the Rooster King, made with Kweichow Moutai liquor, vodka, cognac, lime, plum vinegar and dragon fruit tea.
China Live can host everything from intimate parties of 10 people to large reception-style events for up to 825 with multiple sensory experiences.
