Travelers Rest, referred to by locals as TR, is an up-and-coming destination conveniently positioned just outside downtown Greenville with direct access from the GHS (Greenville Health System) Swamp Rabbit Trail, a nearly 20-mile path for walking and cycling.
TR, considered a “neighborhood” of Greenville by locals, has a lot to offer visiting groups, including various eateries and plentiful outdoor activities.
“Travelers Rest may be a bedroom community within Greenville County, but this vibrant little town is anything but sleepy,” said David Montgomery, vice president of sales for Visit Greenville SC.
A favorite spot here that meeting attendees will enjoy as much as residents is Swamp Rabbit Brewery & Taproom @ 26 S. Main St., a great place to either begin or conclude an exploration of the area.
Attendees can toast with several award-winning Swamp Rabbit craft brews, including Marzen and Dunkel, two German styles, as well as an American Pale Ale and Belgian Ale.
At Sidewall Pizza @ 35 S. Main St., which is known for its homemade ice cream, groups will also find delicious salads and house-made pizzas on the menu, including “Hot Hawaiian” with bacon, prosciutto, roasted pineapple, mozzarella and fresh jalapenos, and “Bacon Bliss” with a roasted garlic sauce, loads of bacon, mozzarella and pecorino.
Farmhouse Tacos @ 164 S. Main St. is another place to grab a bite, where the locally sourced menu includes tacos, quesadillas, salads and habanero cheddar cornbread.
Situated near the Blue Ridge Mountains in Travelers Rest is Trailblazer Park, which features an amphitheater and a covered pavilion. The park accommodates group gatherings, and those interested will also find a concert series, movie showings and a calendar of other events including the Travelers Rest Farmers Market, which runs every Saturday from May through September.
Travelers Rest is also known for its proximity to many outdoor excursions, including hiking, cycling and kayaking. Sunrift Adventures @ 1 Center St. is one local outfitter that will rent kayaks, bikes and other gear to active groups.
