NEW YORK
Christopher Shiel has been named director of sales and marketing at the Refinery Hotel.
In his new role, Shiel will oversee all sales and marketing efforts for the 197-room hotel, a popular destination for visitors to the city as well as locals, with the Refinery Rooftop recently winning the USA Today Reader’s Choice Award for “Best Hotel Bar” for the second straight year.
“With a background in some of New York City’s leading luxury hotels, Mr. Shiel could not be better positioned to manage sales and marketing at the Refinery Hotel,” said Eric Foley, general manager. “His dedication to excellent service, personalization, and an elevated guest experience is truly in line with the vision of the Refinery and we are excited to welcome him to our team.”
Shiel brings a wealth of experience to this position including work with Two Roads Hospitality, Denihan Hospitality Group and Intercontinental Hospitality Group. Most recently, Shiel spent two years at Smyth, a Thompson Hotel in New York City, bringing outstanding rebranding, luxury level brand marketing, and sales management experience to the hotel.
In this new position, Shiel will be responsible for overseeing and managing the on-property sales team, managing luxury programs and executing brand partnerships and activations.
Originally built as a high-end millinery factory and tea salon in 1912, the Refinery draws on the building’s past combining raw elegance in the guest rooms with refined public spaces. This 197-room hotel includes fashion-forward loft-like guestrooms featuring custom furniture, original artwork and industrial-chic design. The property features three restaurant venues and the 3,500-square-foot indoor/outdoor rooftop lounge with views of the Empire State Building, the Refinery Rooftop.
