Boston Park Plaza in summer 2016 completed a major renovation, including updates to its 1,054 guest rooms and 50,000 square feet of meeting space.
Earlier this year, Ames Boston Hotel joined Hilton’s Curio Collection, completed a renovation of its 115 guest rooms and unveiled 1,700 square feet of new meeting/event space.
In spring 2016, the Royal Sonesta Boston unveiled 28,000 square feet of renovated meeting/event space, including a 6,000-square-foot grand ballroom.
Springfield
In March, Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place Hotel (www.sheratonspringfield.com) completed a renovation of its 148 guest rooms.
The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum opened in June to celebrate the work of Springfield native Theodor Geisel.
Berkshires
Miraval recently purchased Cranwell Spa & Golf Resort and plans to renovate and enlarge the property with an expected grand reopening as Miraval Lenox in 2018.
Features of the recently opened Courtyard Lenox Berkshires include an on-site restaurant, indoor pool, business center, outdoor courtyard with a fire pit and one large meeting room.
Connecticut
The Connecticut Convention Center in downtown Hartford recently completed a renovation that includes new public space furniture and a new box office in the lobby.
Uncasville-based Mohegan Sun is scheduled to open a new $80 million Exposition and Convention Center in summer 2018. The expansion will span over 240,000 gross square feet, including a ballroom, 18 meeting rooms and a boardroom, among other features. In November 2016 Mohegan Sun opened the 400-room “Earth Tower” hotel.
At press time, Mashantucket-based Foxwoods Resort Casino was scheduled to introduce the Highflyer Zipline in August.
Hotel Zero Degrees Danbury opened in November 2016 with 114 guest rooms and a 2,600-square-foot ballroom.
Rhode Island
Gurney’s Newport, which features 257 guest rooms and 27,000 square feet of meeting space, including an 8,000-square-foot ballroom, recently opened in the former Hyatt Regency on Goat Island after a major renovation.
Newport Car Museum recently opened with several meeting/event spaces, including the 5,000-square-feet Thunderbird Ballroom.
North Conway-based White Mountain Hotel & Resort in May 2016 completed a renovation of the lobby, Ledges Restaurant and the Echo Ballroom.
Lincoln-based Mountain Club on Loon is in the beginning stages of a three-year plan to renovate 117 club rooms, scheduled for completion in 2019.
