Planner’s Perspective: Janella Thaxton

Event Manager // MOPS International Inc. // Denver

What type of meeting did you hold in Kansas City, Mo.?
We held a leadership training event for our [mothers group] MOPS leaders and moms. We have an amazing group of MOPS staff and volunteers who truly make MOMcon happen.

Was anyone particularly helpful in working with you to execute your event?
Oh yes, we had a successful event in Kansas City because of our incredible team, including Tobias Liu and Greg Turcotte at the Kansas City Convention Center, Esther Walker-Young at Visit KC, and the brilliant Kim Dooley, also at Visit KC, who started it all.

What did your attendees seem to enjoy the most about Kansas City?
Our attendees just love KC. It’s such a fun city. Outside of an amazing MOMcon, they loved the food trucks at the convention center. The Power & Light District never disappoints, and we couldn’t keep up with them at Country Club Plaza.

Are there any experiences that you would recommend for groups meeting there?
Everyone who visits KC should definitely visit the National WWI Museum and Memorial, Union Station, and eat and shop at the Country Club Plaza and Power & Light District.

How does Kansas City compare to other cities where you have hosted meetings?
Kansas City is definitely top-notch. In most cases, there is no comparison.

Would you return/recommend Kansas City to other meeting planners?
Absolutely! Kansas City has the quality reputation it does because of its hardworking people. They make every visitor feel like they are at home away from home. They provide experiences groups will never forget.

So blessed to have had two amazing years there. I sure hope we are fortunate enough to get back there some day.
