Groups Can Drive Alongside History on The Wales Way

Discovering the highlights of Wales just got easier with the introduction of a series of three national driving routes dubbed The Wales Way.

“Newly announced, The Wales Way is an exciting string to our bow to showcase Wales’ unique destination features,” said Rob Holt, director of tourism development and major events for the Welsh government. “A family of three national scenic touring routes, The Wales Way packs in over 6,000 years of history and provides visitors with itineraries through the very best of Wales’ landscapes and attractions.”

The Coastal Way travels the west coast of Wales around Cardigan Bay from Aberdaron to St Davids, a 180-mile trip between the sea and mountains. The Cambrian Way crosses the spine of Wales and spans some 185 miles between Llandudno and Cardiff, passing through national parks. Meanwhile, The North Wales Way runs 75 miles and takes in everything from castles to the island of Anglesey.

Attendees can take advantage of the new delineated routes either as an outing during a meeting or for pre or post trips. Tour companies and DMCs can customize portions of the routes, and some operators can organize cycling, walking and horseback riding adventures along sections of the three.

“It is a perfect addition to our business offering,” Holt said. “Companies from the world over will be able to create bespoke trips and incentives around Wales’ inspiring attractions and destinations such as our UNESCO World Heritage Site castles and world-renowned outdoor products like Zip World, within reach of these scenic roads exploring the best of what Wales has to offer.”

For groups meeting in Cardiff or at the upcoming International Convention Centre Wales (ICC Wales), due to open in 2019 at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, the most accessible of the three routes is The Cambrian Way, ideal for a day trip to Brecon Beacons National Park and beyond.
