Latest + Greatest San Diego: 2018 Openings and Upgrades

San Diego

The Hotel Republic San Diego opened last November in the downtown area as part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. It features 258 guest rooms and 16,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

The InterContinental San Diego is slated to open in September with 400 rooms, an 8,000-square-foot fourth-floor pool deck and an outdoor terrace.

The TownePlace Suites San Diego Downtown is scheduled to open in March. The new hotel will feature 98 suites and share meeting space with the Holiday Inn Express.

The new Carte Hotel & Suites San Diego is expected to open at the end of this year in San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood. The new hotel will feature 240 guest rooms and suites, a restaurant, wine shop, athletic club and meeting space.

In March, a new service called The Hopper is expected to launch. The double-decker bus will provide hop-on, hop-off service to six locations around San Diego, including Old Town, Little Italy, Balboa Park, the Gaslamp Quarter, Seaport Village and the Embarcadero.

The Kona Kai Resort & Spa on Shelter Island recently completed an expansion. The project included new suites and an outdoor terrace, upgraded pool area and a renovated spa. The hotel now offers 170 guest rooms and 55,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor meeting space.

Carlsbad

The Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa is undergoing a major renovation project that, upon completion later this year, will create a dual-branded Westin/Sheraton Carlsbad Resorts & Spa. The combined hotels will feature 402 guest rooms (207 at the Westin and 169 at the Sheraton) and 75,000 square feet of combined meeting space. The renovation of the Sheraton, which includes 48 newly constructed two-bedroom suites, is expected to be completed in the spring, with the Westin scheduled to open this summer.

Del Mar

Last year, L’Auberge Del Mar completed a renovation project that included its 121 guest rooms and public areas. A big focus of the project was the hotel’s 10,000 square feet of meeting space, which includes two ballrooms with terraces and six meeting rooms.
