Latest + Greatest Eastern Iowa: 2018 Upgrades & Openings

Cedar Rapids

The 82-room Tru by Hilton Cedar Rapids Westdale is slated to open early this year. The property will offer a business center, pool, fitness room and breakfast bar.

A 72-room Comfort Inn is currently under construction near the Eastern Iowa Airport, and is slated to open later this year.

Waterloo

The 166-room Courtyard by Marriott Waterloo Cedar Falls opened December 2017 with a lounge, restaurant, John Deere Regional Training Center and a conference center featuring 4,500 square feet of event space. The six-story property is located in downtown Waterloo.

The 228-room Ramada Waterloo Hotel and Convention Center recently changed hands and is undergoing a $14 million renovation project, emerging as the Hotel 4th & Waterloo Convention Center. Included in the purchase is the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center, connected to the hotel via skywalk. The convention center will also undergo renovations in meeting and event spaces, and kitchen/catering areas. The slated date for completion has not yet been announced.

Iowa City/Coralville

The 143-room Hilton Garden Inn Iowa City Downtown University recently opened in downtown with an onsite restaurant, pool, fitness center and more than 2,700 square feet of meeting space.

The 151-room Hyatt Place Iowa City is slated to open August 2018. The property, which will feature an indoor pool, meeting space and lounges, is part of a mixed-use development including apartments and retail space.

Quad Cities

In downtown Davenport the historic Putnam Building has been renovated by Restoration St. Louis into the 78-room The Current Iowa, a member of the Marriott Autograph Collection. The property features artworks by Midwest artists. The Current Iowa also offers an on-site restaurant and the UP Skybar in addition to two meeting rooms.

The River Music Experience recently opened a new museum dedicated to hometown jazz hero Bix Beiderbecke Museum & Archive. The museum and archives highlight the roaring 1920s and include artifacts from Beiderbecke’s life, in addition to videos, photos and interactive exhibits.

In Bettendorf, the TBK Bank Sports Complex is slated to open this May. The 76-acre complex will be one of the biggest indoor/outdoor facilities for sports and entertainment in the Midwest. Included in the complex will be eight indoor regulation basketball courts, nine sand volleyball courts, four soccer fields featuring turf or grass, six baseball fields, plus a fitness center and tiki bar. Adjacent to the complex will be a state-of-the-art bowling alley with 32 lanes, two-story laser tag, an arcade, plus a sports bar and restaurant.
