Latest + Greatest Western Canada: 2018 Upgrades & Openings

ALBERTA

Calgary

The Bow opened up its 54th floor for public rentals in 2017. It has floor-to-ceiling views of the city and skyline and is suited for banquets and meetings.

New hotels that opened in Calgary in 2017 include the 198-room Hilton Garden Inn, with 3,000 square feet of event space, and the adjoining 122-room Homewood Suites by Hilton.

Among the hotels scheduled to open in 2018 and 2019 are the 360-room Residence Inn by Marriott and SilverBirch Conference Centre and The Westin Calgary Airport.

BRITISH COLUMBIA

Richmond

Fairmont Vancouver Airport is renovating guest rooms, with some scheduled for completion in mid-2018 and others by early 2019.

Radisson Hotel Vancouver Airport Hotel is slated to finish by April a renovation that includes updates to its ballroom, on-site restaurant, lobby, corridors and guest rooms.

Vancouver

Parq Vancouver, an entertainment destination, opened in October 2017 with a 329-room JW Marriott Hotel and the 188-room Douglas, an Autograph Collection boutique property, as well as eight restaurants and lounges, a 30,000-square-foot rooftop park, gaming space and 62,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

Two more boutique properties, the 202-room EXchange Hotel and the 71-room SeaSide Hotel (http://seasidehotelvancouver.com), are scheduled to open in Vancouver this summer and late this year, respectively.

Whistler

The Westin Resort & Spa, Whistler completed a renovation of one guest room tower in December 2017 and is scheduled to renovate its second tower by next December. Renovations include updates to guest rooms and corridors. Public areas and meeting rooms will also be renovated with a completion date of 2020.

Delta Hotels Whistler Village Suites in December 2017 completed a renovation that included guest room and lobby updates. The property is scheduled to complete meeting space renovations by late winter this year.

Early last year, Fairmont Chateau Whistler completed a major renovation, including updates to guest rooms, corridors, its golf course and 32,000 square feet of meeting space.

MANITOBA

Winnipeg
In 2021, Sutton Place Hotels is scheduled to open a property across from the recently expanded RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg, which now has 131,000 square feet of meeting space. The hotel is part of a new $500 million downtown plaza, True North Square, which is now under construction and will include enclosed skywalks, boutiques, restaurants and green space.

Regina 
The $37 million convention- and tradeshow-friendly International Trade Centre at Evraz Place opened in November 2017 with three multipurpose spaces, two with 22,000 square feet and one with 46,000 square feet
