MidAmerica Upgrades + Openings (March 2018)

Illinois

Arbor Lodging Partners acquired their first property in the Chicagoland market, the Chicago Marriott Schaumburg. The 398-room hotel will undergo renovations that will include updates to all guest rooms, a reimagined lobby and dining experience, enhancements to meeting facilities and the addition of the brand’s M Club Lounge for Marriott Rewards elite members. The hotel boasts over 28,000 square feet of meeting and event space; the BlueFire Grille, a full-service restaurant; Bevande Lounge; and the Bean Counter coffee shop.

Minnesota

Courtyard by Marriott Minneapolis West opened its doors in St. Louis Park. The hotel features the brand’s latest contemporary room and lobby design.

The six-story hotel has 142 guest rooms, an indoor pool, a complimentary shuttle, a fitness center, guest laundry and 1,388 square feet of meeting space to accommodate functions of up to 100 people, with an additional 12,333 square feet of space at the adjoining Minneapolis Marriott West. The hotel also offers access to Kip’s Irish Pub at the Minneapolis Marriott West.

Courtyard by Marriott St. Paul/Woodbury is now open. The 120-room hotel will operate as a Marriott franchise, owned by Starwood Capital and managed by Aimbridge Hospitality. The property offer convenient access to 3M World Headquarters, the Xcel Energy Center and the Health East Sports Center.

The hotel’s amenities include The Bistro, offering made-to-order and grab-and-go options; a business library; and indoor pool; fitness center; and guest laundry facilities. There is 3,300 square feet of meeting space to accommodate functions of up to 250 people.

 

Marriott International’s Moxy Minneapolis Uptown debuted on Lake Street and Emerson Avenue. The 125-room hotel features a lobby with communal spaces with a mix of modern and vintage-inspired furniture and light fixtures. Guests check-in at the bar instead of a traditional front desk and get a room key along with a complimentary ‘Got Moxy’ cocktail using local Tattersall Distilling spirits. The bar lounge offers games, such as shuffleboard or foosball. The Vinyl Listening Lounge and Record Room houses hundreds of records, three hi-fi turntables and guests purchase records for their personal collection.

The hotel displays artwork from local nonprofit neighborhood gallery Soo Visual Arts Center; music photos by First Avenue Photographer, Daniel Corrigan in the Green Room Suite; and a personal amp and Fender guitar is mounted in every guest room as a nod to the city’s musical history. The sixth-floor, two-bedroom suite with an attached Green Room, can accommodate 40 guests.

Wisconsin

InterContinental Hotel Milwaukee is being rebranded as an independent, art-focused hotel. The 221-room property is dropping the InterContinental brand. Operator Marcus Hotels & Resorts Inc. announced it will be marketed as “a creatively bold independent arts hotel”. The redesign will include curated exhibits, contemporary art installations and live performances. The project is to expected to be completed by mid-2019 and features will include a working studio where hotel guests can view the evolution of each artist’s work.

The downtown property features 13,000 square feet of meeting space and three food and beverage outlets.
