Detroit

The Crowne Plaza Downtown Detroit Riverfront is planning a second tower that would be 28 stories tall and rise approximately 338 feet. Construction is expected to start in late fall or early 2019 with completion expected in 2021.

The District Detroit, a mixed-use entertainment and sports development, is now open, connecting downtown and midtown into one walkable region. The District is home to four teams: the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red Wings, with the latter two based at the District’s main feature, Little Caesars Arena, which opened in September. 

The 100-room Detroit Foundation Hotel opened last May in the historic Detroit Fire Department Headquarters building. The independent property, located across the street from the Cobo Center, features a rooftop ballroom and a ground-floor restaurant.

Opening this March is the 106-room The Siren, a boutique hotel giving new life to the 1926 Wurlitzer Building after a $23 million renovation. Featured in The Siren will be seven food-and-beverage outlets and two retail shops. 

The 130-room Shinola Hotel is under construction and slated to open this fall at the corner of Woodward Avenue and Grand River. The building will offer retail and a restaurant on the first floor, with cuisine by New York Chef Andrew Carmellini. The hotel will also offer meeting space.

The 110-room Element Detroit at the Metropolitan Building will open this December. The property will be a debut for Starwood Hotels & Resorts’ latest brand and feature 2,000 square feet of meeting space, retail on the ground floor and an outdoor patio on the rear rooftop. 

Lansing

The 112-room Holiday Inn Express & Suites Okemos-University Area recently opened near the Michigan State University Campus. Located off I-96, the property offers a breakfast area, indoor heated pool and fitness center.

The 139-room Homewood Suites by Hilton Lansing Eastwood is slated to open this August. The property is minutes away from downtown Lansing and Michigan State University, and features an indoor pool, fitness center, outdoor court for sports and a meeting room.

The 88-room SpringHill Suites East Lansing is under construction and slated to open late this year. The property will be located off US-127, near the MSU campus. The property will be within walking distance from campus athletic facilities, restaurants, nightlife and the Amtrak/Greyhound station.

A 125-room Hilton Garden Inn is currently under construction on the city’s west side and will be the first Hilton property in the capital region. The facility will also offer event space and a full-service restaurant, and will be within walking distance of shops, restaurants and sports venues.

Ann Arbor

Groundbreaking will happen this year on The Glen Hotel, a nine-story mixed-use development located in downtown. The Glen will feature 162 hotel rooms, a restaurant and retail space, along with 24 apartments and an underground parking garage.

Muskegon

Plans are underway for a new convention center, with an expected groundbreaking in 2019. The new facility will be located next to the Holiday Inn & Conference Center Downtown Muskegon. The project is tentatively slated for a 2021 completion. 

Traverse City

The historic 140-room Park Place Hotel is currently building a new conference center, indoor pool and fitness room. The new center will offer more than 8,000 square feet of meeting and event space, and is slated for completion this June.

The 51-unit Baywatch Resort opened last June on the sugar-sand beach of East Grand Traverse Bay. The beachfront resort offers private balconies and patios, family suites, spa rooms and more.
