For many, the main draw to Panama might be the Panama Canal, but it’s the food that’s becoming a standout. At The Bristol in Panama City, guests can satiate their palate at Salsipuedes restaurant, or try their hand in the kitchen for teambuilding and group activities.
“Cuisine is an important element to The Bristol guest experience and we take pride in having them experience everything about Panama and that begins with food, so we use local and farm fresh ingredients,” said Suley Sanson, sales director, The Bristol Panama. “Some flavors and condiments used in Panamanian cuisine are incorporated into all of our dishes.”
The cooking classes take place with the hotel’s executive chef in a meeting room--the property has 10,300 square feet of meeting space--or at the 858 Lounge located inside Salsipuedes restaurant. Panamanian dishes like Mofongo (green plantains) with pork rind; a Sancocho with firewood chicken, yams and toasted rice; and Pot Tamale brisket with sugarcane molasses and sofrito can all be incorporated into the cooking activities.
“The cooking classes are tailored according to the request of each group,” Sanson explained. “Some great options offered are ceviche classes, sushi and tempuras, desserts and healthier foods such as salads with quinoa and grilled vegetables.”
All that cooking can create the need for a thirst quencher. According to Sanson, the cocktail class is a popular one.
“Groups are able to learn how to make some of our most popular cocktails such as the Bristol Mule, Forest Harvest Gin and the Honey Badger.”
