Kimpton Hotels of Washington, D.C. have partnered with Shop Made in DC, a retail initiative that showcases local makers and their goods with a selection of over 100 District-made products.
Included in this new partnership, Kimpton is offering two specialty packages that not only encourage travelers and attendees to experience the District’s creative community, but also will support local makers’ trades and help their small businesses thrive.
For meeting and event groups, the Meet the Maker package offers interactive workshops led by one of Shop Made in DC’s artisans. These are available for breakout sessions and teambuilding activities at all 10 Kimpton properties in downtown Washington, D.C.
With the Meet the Maker experience, Shop Made in DC will arrange for a local maker to guide participants of all skill levels through designing their own creation to take home.

This experience provides attendees the opportunity to connect to Washington, D.C. in a unique way that is often difficult to get during a business trip.
Meet the Maker Hands-On Participant Workshops
Hands-on workshops from a Shop Made in DC vendor can tailor the experience to each group. In the Introduction to Linoleum Block Printing program participants dive headfirst into the block-printing process, from concept to carving and printing with D.C. artist Rose Jaffe of Rose Inks.
Meanwhile, Introduction to Hand Lettering allows participants to “master hand-lettering” in four fonts with instruction from calligrapher Samantha Testa of Painted Palettes.
Another option is Kokedama Making with Lily Cox of A Strange Flower DC. Each participant can craft a Kokedama moss ball, the beginnings of their very own Japanese string garden.
And the Introduction to Candle Making experience works with JSquared Candle Co. founder Jeff Johnston to take groups through selecting the right wick to picking the best essential oil fragrance.
