Positive Impact Invites Event Professionals to Share Stories of Inspirational Female Peers

Positive Impact, a global not-for-profit providing education and collaboration opportunities to create a sustainable event industry, is giving event professionals the opportunity to shine the light on female peers ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2019.

As part of its Girls Creating campaign, aimed at encouraging girls to be limitless in the creation of their careers, Positive Impact is using the example of an industry dominated by females to act on gender equality, inviting event professionals to write short stories of women who have made a difference in their lives as well as share the stories via social media.

“Every year around International Women’s Day, we encourage event professionals to thank and acknowledge their female peers,” said Fiona Pelham, CEO of Positive Impact. “It’s as simple as writing a few words on our website about how someone inspires or supports you, and the Positive Impact team then shares that story via social media to raise the volume on the many women who are making a difference in the event industry.”

Gender equality and women’s empowerment is goal 5 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set forth by the United Nations to achieve by 2030 to have a better and more sustainable future. Two of the goal’s targets are to:

  • End all forms of discrimination against women.
  • Ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision making in political, economic and public life.

Positive Impact’s campaign aims to keep the challenges of gender equality front of mind in the leadup to International Women’s Day and beyond, Pelham added.

To that end, Positive Impact also launched a series of podcasts with female changemakers from around the world as part of the Girls Creating campaign.

The podcasts were gathered during interviews in 2018 to mark the occasion of 100 years of women having the right to vote in the U.K. Guests include Kristi Casey Sanders, director of community at MPI, who discusses what gender equality looks like in the events industry and changes that need to be made, and Annette Gregg, senior vice president at PRA, who speaks about equality in the workplace and equality in leadership.

Meanwhile, on International Women’s Day, event professionals can join a half-hour webinar titled “Four Inspiring Lessons I Wish I’d Known When I Was Seven.”

Presenters include which Melissa Gorrie, staff lawyer for Ecojustice, Canada’s largest environmental law charity, and the founder of Waste Free Edmonton, which works to reduce the amount of waste created in Edmonton, and Lucy Laville, course director at Leeds Beckett University, who offers students short internships with Positive Impact.

Visit the Girls Creating page to learn more about the campaign, register for the webinar, check out the podcasts and 100-plus stories, and share a story of your own.
